Costs of Laser Hair Removal – Are The Prices Really Worth it?
For most patients, the costs of laser hair removal is well worth the benefits of smooth, silky and hair-free skin for months on end. Plus, you cannot deny the fact that, when compared to other hair removal methods like shaving, tweezing and waxing, you will experience lesser pain, inconvenience and scars with laser. So, how would you know the prevailing laser hair removal pricing for your case? Well, the simplest, easiest and truest answer would be to ask the dermatologist.
Factors to be considered
The larger the area to be treated with laser, the more expensive it will be for the patient. So if you want your whole back to be hair-free, then be prepared to pay 5 times more than what you paid for your armpits or your bikini area.
Also, the location of the hair to be zapped away, so to speak, affects the costs of laser hair removal. You may think of it in the following way: The coarser the hair, the more difficult it will be to zap the hair follicles, the more treatments you will need and, so, the higher your bill. For example, the bikini area often has coarser hair than the armpit and so may be more expensive to treat.
Even the location of the clinic will affect the laser hair removal pricing. In general, downtown areas with upscale clinics charge more for their services than, say, a general practice. Still, it will all depend on the dermatologist so you must still ask the professionals.
Ways in Determining Price Structure
In addition to the abovementioned factors affecting the laser hair removal pricing, clinics will also charge based on three ways – a flat fee, time spent on the treatment and a fee per pulse. Within each pricing structure, certain terms and conditions will also apply.
First, the flat fee can be made on either a per treatment basis or a package basis. For the per treatment basis, for example, all men and women will be charged a flat fee of $500 regardless of the length of the session, the number and type of hairs to be treated and the size of the area. The per package basis means that a flat fee is charged for a package of treatments, say, the bikini and armpit areas only, which may or may not vary depending on the hair and skin types.
Second, clinics may also charge based on time spent per session. For example, you may be charged $100 per 15 minutes of laser treatments regardless of the location and size of the treatment area as well as the type of skin and hair.
Third, you may be billed based on the number of pulses delivered to the treatment area. Think of a pulse as the energy delivered each time the laser fires its intense light. For example, the bikini area may be charged a dollar per pulse, with each pulse singeing a hundred hairs or so.
Just to give you a general idea of the costs of laser hair removal, the bikini area can cost $500, the back starts at $600 per treatment session and the legs are billed at $850. If you cannot afford these prices yet, then at least go for the underarms at just $250. You will definitely not regret going for laser treatments.
